2.  MICHAEL2 MCADAMS (MICHAEL1) was born 1830 in County Down, Ireland, and died April 1, 1900 in Cumberland, Russell County, Ontario.  He married ELLEN WALKER August 30, 1851 in Ballymena, Pr. Kirkinriola, Co. Antrim, Ireland, daughter of ANDREW WALKER.  She was born March 17, 1830 in Ireland, and died March 28, 1903 in Cumberland, Russell County, Ontario.

Died from 'La Grippe', having been sick for three weeks[5].

 

Conversation in early 1970s between Robert Moffatt and Myrtle Adams (daughter of George & Mary) revealed Michael McAdam was a farmer, always very dignified and properly dressed; was Presbyterian and quite religious; and was from Ulster. Death registration was more detailed on birthplace, Co. Down, Ulster[5].  Given that he was married in Ballymena, Antrim, it seems possible he was born in Co. Down (Dromara Parish?) and moved north looking for work. It also seems possible he met his wife Ellen Walker in Ballymena. Also noted was visit of Joseph Walker, probably brother of grandmother Ellen.

 

Registration reads:

Married on 30th August 1851 at the RegistrarŐs Office in the Town of Ballymena in the District of Ballymena, MICHAEL McADAMS age 20 Bachelor, labourer of Ballymena Parish of Kirkinriola, son of MICHAEL McADAMS Farmer to ELLEN WALKER age 22 Spinster of Ballymena aforesaid daughter of Andrew Walker Stone Mason.

 

Married in the RegistrarŐs Office According to the provisions of the Act 7 & 8 Ch. 81, by certificate in the presence of Ross Saulter and Sam Johnson[7].

At the time of the 1862 Griffiths Valuation there is an Andrew Walker living in Skerry Parish (Lower Antrim Barony) in Kinbally Townland, renting a house (and no land) from William McCahy, with rateable property of 10 sh. 0p. The townland appears on O.S. Sheet 33, NAC code 0049657.

 

Died from Senile Debility, having suffered from this for 7 years Thomas William Moffatt reported the death [5]
